Yabbies’ 10-man triumph

Cobar Yabbies senior men’s swimming squad had a successful weekend at the Nationals Swimming Carnival in Southport, Queensland over the weekend, winning the 10 man relay event.

The team of Stuart & Owen Small, Grant McDonald Jarred ‘Jacko’ Davey, Ben Plush and Jason Toomey finished second in the six man scratch relay.

Stuart Small picked up a number of placings in races in the 40-44 years category, winning the freestyle event and finishing second in backstroke and third in both his butterfly and breaststroke events.

The Cobar team of John Carswell, Doug Rourke, Chris Powell and Trevor Menadue finished fourth in the 140 years-plus relay, while in the Tobruk four man relay the family team of Bob, Chris and Stephen Clark and George Fowler (Bob’s brother in law) finished in 9th place.

A number of swimmers achieved third places in individual races including Ben Plush (35-39 years freestyle); Owen Small (40-44 years freestyle) and Matt Harland (25-29 years freestyle). Other swimmers to record placings in the 50m events were Murray Harland (4th) and Jacko Davey (8th).

The Yabbies yeam finished second overall in the men’s championship points score.
