Four local players selected for FWAS netball squad

Four Cobar netballers have been selected for the Far West Academy of Sport (FWAS) netball squad to play at the upcoming Academy Games.

Abby Carswell, Zoe Carter, Madason Taylor and Lauren Urquhart were all selected for the squad alongside players from Gilgandra and Broken Hill following a training camp in Cobar over the weekend.

The training camp saw FWAS athletes from the East, Central and West FWAS Netball Satellite Squads arrive in Cobar on last Friday for the two day training camp.

FWAS programs and development officer Jarrad Linton-Harland said the camp covered not only on-court development sessions but also off-field education sessions covering a range of topics including nutrition and cyber safety awareness.

At the camp the FWAS coaches worked with assistance from Netball NSW representative Brooke Brown.

The Regional Academies of Sport Academy Games will be held in April on the Central Coast involving over 700 athletes from 11 regional academies of sport in various sports including netball, basketball, golf and hockey.

“The games will provide the FWAS Netball girls with an opportunity to compete against some of the best up and coming netballers from across the state in nine games over two days of competition,” Mr Linton-Harland said.
