A group of Cobar High School students have been visiting local businesses to get an insight into working life.

The Year 11 and 12 work studies class are conducting the workplace visits as part of their workplace communication unit, visiting The Cobar Weekly and Stationery Essentials.

Class teacher Alexandra Hernando said the class have been focusing applications of different types of communications in the workplace.

“Visiting a variety of community businesses allows students to take what they have learned inside the classroom and identify how these skills are applied in real-life contexts.

“Students are focusing on topics such as dealing with customers and customer complaints; technology in the workplace; workplace policies; internal and external communications; appropriate body language and listening skills.

“The nature of this course allows for the possibilities of students to actively engage with learning experiences that will enhance their understanding of the working world.

“Students completing the Work Studies course may be looking to gain new skills in order to be employed, or are simply looking for a job that they would like to be employed in,” she said.

Miss Hernando said they will also be visiting Studio 225, Cobar Shire Council and the John Mitchell Pharmacy over the coming weeks.
