With Colts forfeiting against Western only one game of seniors 50 overs cricket was played on Saturday between Golf Club and Nymagee.
Golf Club won the toss and batted first with Scott Toomey and Rob Childs starting strongly before they lost Toomey for 14 in the 11th over to be 1/54. With another wicket in the next over, the score was 2/56.
Joel Mawhinney joined Childs at the crease and they took the score to 3/78 before Mawhinney was out for 11 in the 19th over.
When Childs was dismissed for a well made 69 in the 23rd over, Golf Club was 4/104.
Thereafter they lost regular wickets with only Tim Dresser reaching 11 before being run out.
Golf Club was finally all out in the 33rd over for a score of 10/129.
Wicket takers for Nymagee saw the first five of the year with newcomer Kapil Golel claiming 5/33 from 10 overs; Tony Polack had 2/6; and a wicket each was claimed by Thomas Cutting and Jade Buckman.
Buckman and Roger Mitchell started the innings for Nymagee and were well in control at drinks in the 17th over with the score 62.
After the break Buckman was dismissed for 22 and Nymagee was 1/68 after 18 overs.
Matt Nicholson joined Mitchell at the crease and when Mitchell was dismissed for 59 Nymagee were 2/93 after 24 overs.
Nicholson continued to steer the Nymagee juggernaut towards victory and, with the loss of only two more wickets, Nymagee passed Golf Club’s total to finish with 4/131 in the 31st over.
Nicholson remained unbeaten on 18.
In the bowling for Golf Club left arm “wherever they land” Scott Toomey took 3/28 along with one wicket to Dresser.
This week Nymagee hosts Western at Nymagee and Golf Club will play Colts on the turf pitch at Ward Oval.—contributed
