Baker and Gilbert lead the Mermaids

After seven weeks of competition Mermaids’ regular swimmers Steph Baker (67 points) and Tanya Gilbert (57) are leading the group’s point score competition.

The pair were in the water on Sunday night at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool with Baker and Gilbert both finishing on the winner’s podium again this week.

Baker won the first event of the night, the 30m handicap freestyle swim after finishing to within 0.16 seconds of her nominated time.

Gilbert was second on 0.22 with Sharon Huon in third place on 0.61.

Zoë Harland was out in front in the 50m swim with 0.31 seconds off her nominated time to narrowly beat Gilbert on 0.32.

Nikki Davey swam into third place with 0.81.

Lyndsay Klopper was hard to beat in the 100m handicap freestyle swim after she finished to within 0.15 seconds of her nominated time.

Harland was second on 3.28 and Gilbert was again fractionally behind on 3.30.

In addition to their three handicapped events, the group decided to also swim a 30metres Breaststroke Scratch race.

Klopper stormed home to finish with the best time of 23.91 seconds with Baker second on 28.38 and Gilbert was just behind in third place with a time of 28.75.
