Game ends in a thrilling tie

The Senior Cricket 40 Overs match between Golf Club and Nymagee Magpies  ended in a thrilling tie on Saturday.

Batting first, Golf Club scored 108 runs in 35.2 overs, with Jake Harbison their top-scorer with 50 runs off 89 balls (including three fours and a six).

Jason Hampel also contributed 33 runs off 29 balls.

The bowling attack for Nymagee Magpies was led by Adam Buckman who took four wickets in four overs and only conceded nine runs.

Phil Harley took 2/12 off his six overs.

In reply, Nymagee were dismissed in 37.1 overs, also for a total of 108 runs.

Jacob King, with 39 runs off 50 balls, top-scored for Nymagee with extras, the second top scorer with 27 (including 22 wides).

Needing one run to win with one wicket in hand, Golf Club’s bowler Jason Hampel knocked over Nymagee batter Adam Buckman to seal the thrilling tie.

The bowling attack for Golf Club was led by Jake Harbison who took three wickets in eight overs for 18 runs.

Hampel also took three wickets from his seven overs for 23 runs.

With one round remaining in both the Twenty20 and 40 Overs competitions, the grand final berths for both competitions are already set.

In the Twenty20 grand final next Friday night, defending champs Whackers will face Bushies for the second year running while in the 40 Overs competition grand final to be played in a fortnight, Empire will be looking for a three-peat against grand final newcomers Golf Club.—contributed
