Mitchell makes Mermaid history

 

Jennifer Mitchell will go down in the Cobar Mermaids women’s swimming club history books as being the first Mermaid to swim spot on her nominated time for the 2015/2016 season.

Mitchell swam exactly to her nominated time to win the 30 metres event on 0.00 at Sunday’s night’s competition at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.

Tanya Gilbert, with a good time of 0.22 seconds, finished in second place and Pip O’Donnell was third with 0.32.

Gilbert was out in front in the 50 metres event to win with a time of 0.44 seconds off her nominated time.

Narrowly back in second place was Bridgette Jones (0.54) and third was Mitchell on 1.44.

Jones had the best time (0.69 seconds off her nominated time) to win in the 100 metres handicapped swim.

Mitchell (with her third podium finish for the night) was second after recording a time of 1.13 and O’Donnell was the next best on 5.66 seconds to place third.

After five weeks of competition, Stephanie Baker leads the point score tally for the season with a total of 44 points.

Ness Cairns, with 36, is currently running second with Tanya Gilbert and Johanna Strahl equal third on 30 points.

Back in 5th place is Penny Colwell on 29 and Bridgette Jones is currently 6th on the points ladder on 27 points.
