King Roosters held off the Concrete Cowboys to claim the winner’s glory in the A Grade Mixed Open Touch competition.
Both sides scored two tries each in Thursday night’s fast-paced grand final match at Ward Oval but, with both of King Roosters’ tries scored by their female players, which are worth double points, that was the key to their win.
Aisha Schofield and Phoebe Pursehouse ran in a try each for the King Roosters to lead them to their narrow 4-3 win.
Concrete Cowboys’ points came from a try each to Molly Broughton and Tyler Coughlan.
King Roosters’ playmaker, Marty Turton, was named Player of the Grand Final.
The CATS unexpectedly upset the Rusty Snails 8-1 in the B Grade grand final match.
Both their previous encounters in the competition had been close games, one of which ended in a draw.
That was looking like it was going to be the case again in last week’s grand final when CATS only had a narrow 1-0 lead at the halftime break after Jayden Paul crossed for the first of his two tries for the match.
The second half was however a totally different ball game with Rusty Snails looking like they had run out of puff as the CATS raced away to record five second half tries to Rusty Snails’ lone one.
CATS had brought out their ‘A-game’ in the second half with Player of the Grand Final Damon Bruce, Ashley Cousins, Ellie Smith, Sam Best and Jayden Paul all crossing for a try each to help seal their win.
Ben Dormer was Rusty Snails’ lone try scorer.
Concrete Cowboys’ Neve Carter was named the Female Best & Fairest Player of the Season and she was also the competition’s leading female try scorer with a tally of 11 tries for the season.
The Men’s Best & Fairest award was shared by Jayden Paul and Jayden Cryer with Jaxon Burke and Chris Crotty sharing the Men’s Most Tries title after both finished with a tally of 10 tries each in the competition.
The Junior Touch football 9-12 years grand final, also played on Thursday, was a thriller of a game with the match having to go into extra time to find a winner.

In reply, Addison Cull, Harpa Martin and Josh Gillette scored a try each for Keeping it Lemon.
Workhorse, Josh Gillette had a great game to earn the Player of the Grand Final title.
Keeping it Orange’s George McDonald recorded the most tries this season with 19 (and that didn’t include the two he scored in the grand final game).

The Best & Fairest players of the season were Michael Rogers, George McDonald and Ella Oborn.
The 13-16 years grand final game between Pink Panthers and Brussel Sprouts was postponed due to a number of players being away on a school excursion.
The match was moved to Sunday afternoon.
The two teams were equally matched in talent and it looked like it was going to be a great match up for the grand final however two of Pink Panthers’ playmakers were unavailable for Sunday’s game and Brussel Sprouts ran away to win by a big margin, 17-4.
Maddie Bruce and Oscar Ryan, who both scored four times each, were Brussel Sprouts’ most valuable players, along with Ethan McLeod, who earned the Player of the Grand Final award.
The leading try scorers of the season in the 13-16 years competition were Clay McDonald with 15 tries and Maddie Bruce, also with 15 tries.
