Former Cobar resident Roger Jackson has been invited as a guest speaker for the Night for Our Lost Miners event.
The event recognises Cobar’s lost miners and is a part of the town’s annual Festival of the Miner’s Ghost festivities.
Mr Jackson first came to town as a teacher at Cobar High School in 1991 where he taught for four years before branching out to work in Exploration Geology.
He started up a number of companies, including Every Day Mine Services (EDMS) in 1997, which won the Orana Region (Western NSW) Most Outstanding Business of the Year award in 2007.
Mr Jackson became a prominent and successful local businessman and was elected as a Cobar Shire Councillor in 1998 and served on Council until 2002.
In 2006 Mr Jackson was the instigator of the creation of the big COBAR sign on the eastern entrance to town.
He collaborated on the project with the Cobar High School staff and construction students as well as local businesses, KML Industries and Cobar Cranes who, along with Mr Jackson, donated materials and their labour to the project.
For the past 28 years Mr Jackson has been actively involved in the mining industry.
He is enthusiastic about coming back for the Night for Our Lost Miners event and said he is “really looking forward to catching up with lots of old friends”.
