St John’s athletes compete against other regional schools

Four St John’s Primary School students travelled to Glendale last Friday to compete in the Polding Athletics Carnival.

The students competed as part of the Wilcannia-Forbes team.

Daniel Apaza competed in the disability category and came home with two gold and two silver medals after placing first in shot put and discus and second in the 100 metre and 200 metre sprints.

Daniel’s 5.83 metre discus throw in the Boys 11-13 Multi Class event won him a gold medal.

In the Boys 11-13 Multi Class shot put event Daniel threw 3.84 metres to win another gold medal.

Daniel also won two silver medals for running events recording a time of 28.14 in the 100 metre dash and a 1.02.16 in the 200 metre dash.

Daniel has qualified to represent the Polding team at the NSW PSSA carnival for the 100m and 200m at Sydney Olympic Park in October.

Fellow student Capri Algie competed in the Girls 8-10 years Shot Put event throwing a length of 6.44m to put her in 9th place.

Eight year old students Ava Francisco and Evelyn Williams competed in the 8 Year Old Girl’s 100m Dash.

Ava came in just ahead of Evelyn with a time of 17.53 and Evelyn with a time of 17.82.
