Walk brings mental health into the light

Lifeline joined with several Cobar health services on Sunday to host a community walk for World Suicide Prevention Day. The ‘Out of the Shadows and Into the Light’ walk attracted a large turnout of supporters with the crowd carrying yellow balloons on a 2km walk around town before releasing the balloons at Cobar Bowling & Golf Club in memory of those lost to suicide. Cobar Health Council president Gordon Hill gave a moving talk about the statistics of suicide and how those at risk can receive help. Kelly Leonard from NSW Outback Division of General Practice also spoke about the services available in Cobar for those at risk as well as their family and friends. The crowd were also treated to goodie bags and a barbecue. ▪ Photo courtesy of Klae McGuinness Photography
