Roll up of 28 for CATS’ first triathlon

There was a great roll up of 28 athletes for the Cobar Athletics Triathlon Squad’s (CATS) first triathlon event of the new 2023/2024 season on Sunday.

The club welcomed back a few old competitors as well as a number of new faces with two individuals tackling the Long Course of a 500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run; eight individuals and four teams took on the Short Course of a 300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run; and three teams tried the Try-A-Tri introductory course of a 200m swim, 5km ride and 2km run.

In the Long Course, Tom Summerhayes (1hr, 2min and 54sec) finished not far in front of Khan Fugar (1.12.30).

Isaac Theakston had the best individual time of 33 minutes for the Short Course with Claire Cousins second on 43.22 and Chris Powell was next over the line with 44.23.

The Evil Dolls (Tilly Doll, Cora McKervey and Isla McKervey) were the first team back on the Short Course with a time of 35.04 followed by Splash, Flash & Dash (Henry Knight, Trudy Griffiths and Pearl Blackburn) on 36.39 and No Hope Mopes (Greg McKervey and Braiden Jones) with 39.50.

In the Try a Tri group, Kasalia Fakahua teamed up with visiting cousins Maia and Aria Mckay to finish with the best time of 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
