Former First Grade player, John Dunn, is the new president of the Cobar Roosters Senior Rugby League Club following the club’s annual general meeting on Sunday.

Dunn, who was unable to attend the meeting due to work commitments, had put his interest in writing to the meeting and was unanimously elected to the role on Sunday.

Dunn takes over from Chris Deighton, who had served seven years as club president, and who is the Castlereagh competition’s current group president.

Deighton told Sunday’s meeting it was time to step down in order to allow the club to move forward with some fresh ideas.

In his outgoing President’s Report, Deighton said when he took over, the club had about $20,000 in the bank, and they were in a competition that wasn’t bringing any joy to the players.

He said he was pleased to be able to leave the club in a much better financial state and that the club had four teams competing in a great competition that had “a very level playing field across all grades”.

He praised the numerous committees he had worked with, mentors and influencers along the way including Ben Trudgett, Brad Wynd, Bianka Jacobson, Barry Knight and Simone Neyland.

Deighton was nominated for Life Membership to the club for his efforts.

Also new to the committee is vice president James Neyland with Tia Turner returning to the secretary’s role and Tom Plater has taken on the treasurer’s role.

Molly McAndrew retained the Registrar’s position

Turner also retains the Media Officer role and will be assisted this season by Rhiana Kershaw.
