Essential Energy maintains Australia’s largest electricity network and employs over 3,000 people with their longest serving employee based right here in Cobar.

A linesman at the Cobar Depot, Robert ‘Bob’ De Jong was last week recognised by Essential Energy for his 50 years of service to the company.

Bob’s currently Essential Energy’s longest serving employee.

Essential Energy’s Chief Executive Officer John Cleland, Chief Operating Officer Luke Jenner and Head of Operations Brendon Neyland joined the Cobar staff and their partners for a dinner last Thursday night to mark Bob’s 50 year milestone.

Bob began his apprenticeship as a linesman’s assistant at the end of 1973 with the then Macquarie County Council which later became Macquarie Electricity, Western Power, Advance Energy, Country Energy and then Essential Energy, as it is known today.
