Nymagee claims first win of the season

The local 50 Overs senior cricket competition resumed on Saturday for the 2015/16 season with two games scheduled to be played at Ward Oval.

Golf Club was to have played the Western on No 2 synthetic oval while Colts was to have hosted Nymagee on the No 1 turf wicket in a replay of last season’s grand final.

Golf Club only had six players available and had to forfeit the match.

Unfortunately due to the heavy rain on Friday night it was deemed that the turf wicket was too wet to be used and the game was transferred to oval No 3.

Colts won the toss and elected to bat in the hot steamy conditions on Saturday.

Tom Good opened the batting for Colts and was joined at the crease by old batting partner Wayne ‘Tweet’ Josephson who made a return to Cobar cricket this season.

Between them they pushed the ball around to take the score to 25 in the ninth over before Josephson (11) became Craig Dillon’s first wicket.

The score was 2/30 when Stephen Nicholson came to the wicket. He and Good put on an 82 run partnership from 25 overs before Good, who top scored with 41, became the second of Dillion’s wickets.

Dillion struck once more in the over to have Nicholson dismissed for 36 which saw Colts sitting at 4/113 off 38 overs.

Wickets fell regularly thereafter to see Colts bat out their 50 overs to finish at 8/149 with Gary Woodman finishing on 14 not out.

Bowling for Nymagee saw Dillon as the best with 3/25 off his 10 overs; Tony Polack took 3/30 off 10 and one wicket each was claimed by John Potter and Thomas Cutting.

Nymagee started strongly to score 13 runs from the first two overs before Colts took their first wicket in the third over to have Nymagee at 1/14. Dillon came to the crease to join son Matt, who had opened the innings, and together they pushed the score to 33 before Matt was dismissed in the 10th over.

Phil Harley and Dillon Senior then advanced the score to 52 in the 14th over when Dillon was dismissed or 22.

Mathew Nicholson joined Harley at the crease and they put on a 49 run partnership off nine overs. When Nicholson was dismissed in the 22nd over for 21, Nymagee had 4/101.

Two more quick wickets saw Nymagee at 7/125 after 26 overs with Harley not out on 47.

Harley proceeded to continue his good form with the bat to finish with an unbeaten 70 not out. Nymagee passed Colts’ score in the 31st over to finish at 7/152.

In the bowling for Colts, Dan Howard collected 3/19 off five overs and two wickets each were claimed by Good and Mark Fraser.

The Twenty20 competition starts this Friday with Empire up against The Camels.

There is no Saturday cricket. On Sunday the Cowboys will play their first representative game in the Brewery Shield against Nyngan at Nyngan. The side is: Wade Potter (captain), Tom Edgar, Clay Neale, Slade Neale, Mathew Nicholson, Jade Buckman, Phil Harley, Stephen Nicholson, Rob Childs, Michael Furner, Carl Reich and Craig Youd.—contributed
