The Cobar team of Don Roberts, Kyle Roberts and Dave Portelli finished as the winners of the Neville Layton Triples tournament played over the weekend at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club.

The annual triples tournament attracted 28 teams of 84 bowlers this year, including seven teams from Blacktown, four from Hillston, three from the Austral club, two from Bourke and teams from Broken Hill, Manildra, Tuncurry, Leeton, Yenda and Newcastle along with six local sides.

The local team of Don Roberts, Kyle Roberts and Dave Portelli played their way into the final on Sunday afternoon where they came up against the Blacktown team of Brad Marriott, Ziggy Palka and Stuart Wayne.

The Cobar side won the close match 18-14.

In the Repechage consolation match played on Sunday the Hillston team of Darryl Rees, Noel Graham and Bruce Shields emerged as the winners after defeating the Bourke team of Matt Orcher, Kevin Hatch and Chad Taylor in another close match, 10-8.

Rain on Friday and Saturday nights didn’t interfere too much with the tournament however it did make for slow going on the greens and bowlers had to adjust their games accordingly.

More rain at lunchtime on Sunday during the semi finals delayed play for a short time however the tournament was able to continue and the final was played after the storm had cleared.
