Male competitors dominate CATS’ first triathlon of the year

Long and short course handicapped place getters Murray Harland, Chris Freeman, Chris Powell, James Egan, Raymond Jones, Chris Deighton and Anthony Wrigley

The Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad got in early this year to hold their first event of the season with their first triathlon run in relatively cool conditions on January 14.

There were 10 competitors for the event which included six individuals and two teams.

Individual competitor Anthony Wrigley and the Last Resort team of Chris Deighton (ride and run legs) and Murray Harland (swim) tackled the Long Course which consisted of a 500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run.

Wrigley finished with a good time of one hour, 11 minutes and 49 seconds.

Last Resort completed the course in 1.22.56.

The Short Course (300m swim, 10km ride, 2km run) and Overall Handicap winner was the Warriors 2.0 team made of Chris Powell (who did the swim and ride legs) and runner James Egan.

The pair finished the short course circuit with a quick time of 37 minutes and six seconds.

Chris Freeman was second in the Overall Handicap division (41.27) and Raymond Jones was third with a time of 41.29.

Other short course competitors Chad Buckman (42.32), Tanya Gilbert (42.43) and Bianka Jacobson (47.04) gave them a good run for their money.
