First out of the starting gate

Cobar owned and trained horse, Knee Slapper, looked a bit fidgety going into the starting gate in the final race on the Cobar Picnic Races program on Saturday, the Allan Wells Memorial Cobar Picnic Cup over 1,700 metres. Knee Slapper however got the best start (pictured above at far left) and led the field for some time before he was eventually mowed down by Merdeka, who won by two lengths from Hammoon Sweetheart with Knee Slapper holding out for third place. The placing on Saturday elevated Knee Slapper up two spots on the NSW Picnic Racing Association Champion Series standings to No 11 with the top 12 horses eligible to compete in the 1,400m set weight race at Coonamble in October which offers $50,000 prize money.
