Capacity field for Golfie’s Triples tournament

The Golfie Triples Bowls Tournament over the weekend attracted bowlers from all over including John Fitzgerald (Hillston), Jeff Brown (Nymagee), Arthur Piper, Mal Gibson, Butch Renshall and Peter ‘Macca’ McLennan from Blacktown Workers Club and Peter Green and Ben Traedera (from The Rock). Local bowlers Kyle Roberts and Don

The Cobar Bowling and Golf Club hosted the Annual Cobar Triples Bowls Tournament over the weekend with a capacity field of 84 bowlers in attendance.

Players travelled from afar including Blacktown, Narrandera, Wagga Wagga, Hillston, Cowra, Bourke, Condong and Lake Cargelligo playing in a total of five games of 12 ends.

Saturday’s gusty, windy hot day made for tricky conditions with Team Plater – Peter and Matt (from Condong) and Tom (Cobar) taking out game 1.

Game 2 was dominated by the Cobar connection of Jason Howell, Dean McLeod and Ian Prendergast with another Cobar team of Bian Smith, Tony Brown and Gerard Livingston claiming game 3.

An evening three end knockout was contested with Jason Howell, Jack Tulloh and Don Roberts victorious.

Beautiful bowling conditions greeted bowlers on Sunday with another Cobar team, Allan Gardoll, Greg Clark and David Schofield, claiming the win in game 4 while Blacktown’s Chuc Nguyen, Barry Womersley and Shaun Collier claimed victory in the final game.

An add on three end knockout was won by locals Jack Tulloh, John Goonrey and Greg Clark.

The overall winners for the tournament were the mighty Cobar team of Doug Hudson, Don Roberts and Kyle Roberts.

Blacktown’s Peter McLennan, Butch Renshall and Peter Embleton took second spot and Bourke’s Pom Harding, George Dickson and Willie Orcher claimed third position.

The major calcutta winners were Charlie Nelson (first and second places), Jim Goonrey/Dave Knight (third) and Sharni Clark (last place).Completely Biased
