Sharing stories to celebrate women

The Great Cobar Heritage Centre and CentreCare hosted a morning tea on Thursday to celebrate International Women’s Day. Museum curator Kay Stingemore used the occasion to re-launch her story gathering project. “A few years ago we ran story gathering days down at the library and we got loads of women to come in and talk to us and tell us stories about all kinds of things. Out of that came a book, which is called We are Here, Stories of Cobar’s Inspiring Women,” Kay said. She believes she could fill an entire encyclopaedia with stories about the lives and achievements of Cobar women and encouraged people to suggest women who could be interviewed, and women from the past whose lives could be researched and included in the next book. This year’s International Women’s Day theme was Press for Progress. “We’ve come a long way there’s more places we can go,” Kay said.
