Cobar Shire Council’s new crop of 12 councillors was sworn in on Thursday with Cr Jarrod Marsden and Cr Michael Prince elected to lead Council for the next two years.
Cr Marsden was returned as mayor for his second term, along with Cr Prince as deputy mayor.
Both were elected unopposed after they were the only nominees for their respective positions.
New councillors Chris Deighton, Peter Florance, Miranda Fry, Mick Haines, Wayne Phillips and Nigel Vagg were sworn in (by taking either an affirmation or oath of office) along with returning councillors Bob Sinclair, Harley Toomey, Kate Winders, Lillian Simpson, Cr Marsden and Cr Prince.
By taking the oath, councillors declared they would undertake their duties in the best interests of the people of Cobar Shire and would faithfully and impartially carry out the functions, powers, authorities and discretions vested in them under the Local Government Act 1993.
Following the election, Mayor Marsden said he was “looking forward to a very productive term” of council.
Cr Phillips commented that “as a new chum on the block” among a group of new councillors, he thought Cr Marsden and Cr Prince were a “good choice” for mayor and deputy mayor as they had previously proven themselves capable of providing “guidance and leadership”.
