Smash Ups and Pumpettes played a close game in Round 3 of the Senior Mixed Netball competition on Friday night at Ward Oval with Smash Ups eventually coming out on top to win 35-30.

Smash Ups got off to a flying start to be up 12-6 at the first break.

Pumpettes fought back in the second quarter with excellent shooting and strong defence to dominate at both ends of the court which helped to level the score to 16-all by half time.

Pumpettes continued to call the shots and, by the end of the third quarter, they had taken a narrow two goal lead and had their “eyes on the prize” going into the last phase of play.

Smash Ups however brought out their ‘A Game’ in the final quarter.

Their shooters sank 15 goals (almost double the Pumpettes shooters’ final quarter efforts) which saw them through to a five point win.

Smash Ups’ Brianna Watson and Nikki Gilbert shared the game’s Best & Fairest points with Pumpettes’ Lauren Dunn.

Simone Neyland (Pumpettes) and Neve Carter (Smash Ups) earned the Sportsmanship awards.
