Neverlosen crowned minor premiers

Bayer Neverlosen and CSA recorded wins in the final round of the indoor soccer regular season last Wednesday.

Bayer Neverlosen secured the minor premiership with a win over Peakaroos.

Despite having a superior record, they were made to work hard for their victory after Peakaroos staged a spirited fightback in the second half to almost cause a major upset.

Leading 7–3 at half time, Neverlosen were in control and were heading towards a comfortable victory. However, Peakaroos got on a roll in the second half and gave Neverlosen a fright clawing the score back to 7–6.

A late female goal for Neverlosen eventually clinched them the 9–6 win.

Goal scorers for Neverlosen were Mel Bruce (2), Scott Brown (2), Kathleen Hardie and Jade Buckman.

Peakaroos’ points came from goals to Thomas Wall (2), Alfred Mutale, John Heavey and Allanah Burton.

The second match of the night was a close encounter with CSA defeating The Mixers 2–0. A goal in each half was enough for CSA to secure the win.

Akwasi Amponsa and Cornelius Mangung were CSA’s goal scorers.

In the first round of the finals to be played tonight, Bayer Neverlosen has a bye as minor premiers, while The Mixers play Peakaroos in the elimination final and Wii Not Fit face CSA in the preliminary final.

The Mixers and Peakaroos have shared the wins from their two encounters this season.

Both teams have similar defensive records but Peakaroos has an advantage in attack scoring on average one more goal per game than The Mixers.

Key players to watch are Peakaroos’ Thomas Wall and John Heavey and The Mixers’ Mark Cummins and Jason Forster.

The preliminary final is also expected be a close match between Wii Not Fit and CSA.

Wii Not Fit has a better defensive record but CSA has a better attacking record.

However, the last time the two teams met Wii Not Fit won comfortably, 14–7.

Wii Not Fit are a more structured team and deservedly are favourites in this match. —contributed
