The Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) will start providing COVID-19 vaccinations to its staff from next Mon-day.
WNSWLHD Chief Executive Scott McLachlan said as part of Phase 1a of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Vaccination schedule, the most at-risk groups will receive the vaccine as soon as possible.
“Phase 1a includes healthcare workers who work in areas such as emergency departments and intensive care units.
“It also includes aged care residents, including those living in our Multipurpose Service (MPS) facilities. Phase 1b includes all other healthcare workers,” Mr McLachlan said.
The vaccination requires two injections at least 12 weeks apart.
During the second phase, 1b, vaccinations will be available from the Cobar Respiratory Clinic, which is one of the first 13 practices in the region that will commence administering Phase 1b of the COVID-19 Vaccination plan.
Those eligible to receive the vaccination in Phase 1b include: elderly adults aged 70 years and over; other Health Care Workers who were not vaccinated during Phase 1a; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 55 years and over; adults with an underlying medical condition (including those with a disability); and critical and high-risk workers.
It’s expected the residents and staff of the Lilliane Brady Village will be vaccinated “in the coming weeks” by a special team.
Local medical staff have undergone specialised training to administer the vaccinations as part of the second stage of the Australian Government’s roll out schedule.
