It was a family affair at the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s (CATS’) event on Sunday morning with brother taking on brother in the water while a husband went up against his wife in the bike and run legs.

Regular triathlon competitors, mother and son team of Kylie and Noah Lynch (who call themselves Team Lynchie), were joined this month by two other members of their family with father and son Adam and Byron nominating as Team Zoomers.

The additional Lynches were just two of the 11 new starters in a field of 27 competitors for Sunday’s event which also included two competitors from Warren.

Zoomers grabbed the podium glory to claim the short course (300m swim/10km bike ride/2km run) teams event handicapped win with a time of 52 min 26 sec.

Byron did the swim while dad Adam completed the ride and run legs.

Team Lynchie placed second in the teams handicapped event, with a quick time of 46.50, which was an improvement of seven minutes on their previous best time (which could be contributed to Kylie’s new bike).

In third place was team TNT (Tanya Gilbert did the swim and run legs and Nikki Davey who completed the ride) with a time of 44.27.

Davey also had a new bike which helped the pair to improve on their previous PB time.

In the individual short course event Sophie O’Brien from Warren, with a quick time of 41.51, was the handicapped winner.

In second place was Raymond Jones with 53.23 (bettering his previous best time by seven minutes) and third was Amie Hill who finished in 40 minutes, which was the fastest short course time. It was also 2.22 minutes better than her previous best attempt.

Three competitors tackled the long course (500m swim/20km ride/4km run) with newcomer Peter Joynt the handicap winner (and also fastest finisher on 1hr 06min 46sec).

In second place in the long course event was Scott Brown who was competing for the first time this season after recovering from an injury. It seems Brown hadn’t lost much form during his forced break from the sport and finished just six seconds off his previous best time, 1.12.09.

In third place was Martin Scott on 1.21.45.

Zoomers finished as the overall handicap winners with Joynt second and O’Brien was third.
