Despite only having a small field of nine competitors, there were some great individual results recorded at the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s monthly triathlon event on Sunday.
Previous events this season have had the women on top of the podium, but Sunday’s event had the boys taking all top three spots.
Axel Fairfull, competing in the Short Course event of a 300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run, finished as the handicapped winner with a time of 49.30. He finished two minutes ahead of the rest of the pack beating his average time of 54.53.
Greg McKervey finishedthe short course in 40.17 to better his previous best (PB) time by two and a half minutes.
In third place was Zac Broughton with a quick time of 38.44, which was a new PB by a minute and his was also the fastest short course time for the day.
Mick Howell had the fastest Long Course time and he completed the 500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run in 1hr 6min 50sec which was also a new PB for him.
Seven of the nine competitors set PB’s in Sunday’s event with six recording faster swim times and six also had quicker bike leg times.
McKervey and Tommy Bryan set new PB run times while club veteran Chris Powell was just one second off his PB.
Athletes will have two chances in January to further improve their times at both the club’s monthly event on January 19 and at their Australia Day Scratch event.
