Cobar has recently welcomed a new permanent pharmacist, Julian Lam, who has moved here looking for a lifestyle change.
Mr Lam studied at Sydney University and completed his internship 13 years ago, also in Sydney at Rockdale.
For the past almost eight years working in Canberra, Mr Lam’s main clients have been nursing homes and palliative care.
Prior to that, he worked in community pharmacy settings, one of which was in rural NSW in Tamworth.
“So a rural setting is not that unfamiliar to me,” Mr Lam said.
Mr Lam told The Cobar Weekly he chose to move to Cobar for a quieter life.
“People are more friendly here than in the city where everyone is in a rush and they just want to get things done.”
He said he’s looking forward to getting to know the people in Cobar.
The move to Cobar is also a promotion for Mr Lam who is keen to learn more about running the business side of things in the pharmacy and also managing the team.
While he’s not locked into any particular time frame of how long he will stay in Cobar, Mr Lam expects it will be at least 12 months, if not more.
“I will see how things go,” he said.
He started work at The John Mitchell Pharmacy two weeks ago and said so far he is enjoying being in Cobar.
“The people are nice,” he said.
In his spare time, Mr Lam is doing further study and he also likes to read and game.
“Generally I just like to stay home and relax,” he said.
