The Cobar Bowling & Golf Club is once again hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event to raise funds for the Cancer Council to assist research, prevention and patient support services.

The club’s secretary/manager, Jason Howell, said their fundraising has already begun.

“This year we’ve already been given a sizeable donation from Norm Davis,” Jason told The Cobar Weekly.

Norm had his own cancer journey and also lost his wife Diane to the disease.

“It was a very emotional moment when Norm handed over the cheque,” Jason said.

“Unfortunately Norm can’t be here this year, but he wanted to make a donation because it meant so much to him.”

Having also lost his father to cancer, Jason  said the event is a very personal one for him as well.

“Many families have a cancer story so it’s very important that we support revenue to help find a cure,” Jason said.

After a successful event last year where over $2,000 was raised for the Cancer Council, Jason hopes this year’s event will be bigger and better.

He said in addition to making a donation for morning tea, patrons can purchase Cancer Council merchandise and also buy tickets in their raffles which include $100 hampers from Gumnuts Gifts and Homewares.

“The Cobar Hot Bake has also offered to supply cakes and sweets on the day,” Jason said.

He said community support for the event has been great.
