ATC Angels edge out Broughton Ballers in close semi-final

ATC Angels finished as close 33-26 winners in their semi final on Friday night.

ATC Angels and Smash Ups finished as winners of the Cobar Netball Association’s Senior Ladies competition’s two semi-finals on Friday night at Ward Oval.

ATC Angels produced a determined performance to overcome Broughton Ballers 33-26 despite having just six players available for the match.

ATC Angels led from the outset, taking a
13-9 advantage into the first break before extending their lead to 20-15 at half-time.

They continued to control the game through the third quarter, leading 27-18 at the final break, before holding off a late challenge from Broughton Ballers to secure the seven-goal victory.

ATC Angels shooter Elodie Manns was well-served by her accuracy under the ring, with strong support from Goal Attack Niamh Urquhart.

In defence, Brinley Obray anticipated play well at Goal Keeper and was responsible for a number of intercepts and turnovers, while Heidi Mainey was a strong rebounder for the ATC Angels.

Broughton Ballers’ Stevie Toomey shot confidently throughout, with a number of her long-range attempts finding the mark.

In the centre court, Sosie Barton at Centre and Sarah Morley at Wing Attack combined well to create opportunities for Broughton  Ballers in attack.

In the other semi-final, Smash Ups proved too strong for Trial N Error, running out convincing 61-31 winners.

Last week’s two winning teams, Smash Ups and ATC Angels will meet in the first final this Friday night, while Divas (who finished as minor premiers) will take on Broughton Ballers in the other final.

The winners of both games will progress to next week’s all-important grand final.
