Untouchaballs are through to grand final

Fast5 netball only requires a team of five players on the court at any one time, however as it’s a fast paced game, it doesn’t hurt to have a few subs on the bench to keep the team competitive. Untouchaballs only had five players available for most of their
elimination semi final match on Tuesday night against Rebounders, but it was enough to see them through to a narrow three point win. Untouchaballs will now meet the minor premiers, Mixed & Matched in next week’s grand final.

Untouchaballs are through to the Fast5 netball grand final after they narrowly beat Rebounders, 47-44, in Tuesday night’s elimination semi final.

Untouchaballs played most of the match with only five players, however they were a good combination with one of the competition’s leading goal scorers, Nikki Gilbert, teaming up with Brianna Watson in the goal circle and Chris Deighton (Goal Defence) and Bianka Jacobson (Goal Keeper) took care of things at the other end of the court.

Tyler Chiswick, in the Centre, directed play.

(Mitch Shields later joined the match in the third quarter and took over the Centre duties.)

The scores were tied at 9-all at the end of the first break and Untouchaballs had a narrow three point lead at half time, 19-16.

Rebounders used their Power Play option to great effect in the third quarter to land 22 points but Nikki Gilbert’s sharp shooting kept Untouchaballs in with a chance.

They only trailed by three points, 35-38, going into the final quarter.

Untouchaballs then had the advantage as they had saved their Power Play option until the final quarter.

They outpointed Rebounders 12-6 to finish with a narrow three point win, 47-41.

Nikki finished the match with four long-range three-pointer goals to add to her big tally of points this season.

Untouchaballs will meet the competition’s minor premiers, Mixed & Matched, in next week’s grand final. It should be a great match as the two sides played a 33-all draw last week when they met in Round 10.

After Mixed & Matched got off to a flying start to lead 10-5, the game was point-for-point there after with Mixed & Matched up by one point at half time. The scores were locked at 23-all at three-quarter time and were still locked at full time for a 33-all draw.

Only one other Round 10 game was contested last week, with Shooting Blanks finishing their season as 40-27 winners over Peak Golden Nuggets. Last Minute forfeited their last match of the season to Rebounders.

Cobar Netball Association is now gearing up for its winter competition which include Seniors, Intermediates and Juniors competitions.
