Finishing with a massive score of 322 runs in their win over Golf Club in the Senior Cricket 40 Overs competition on Saturday has secured Empire the 2020/2021 minor premiership title and a spot in the grand final.
The match was the last 40 Overs game of the year (before the grand final this Satur-day) with Empire’s score is possibly the highest score ever since the club reduced the format from 50 to 40 overs.
Empire beat Golfie by 179 runs thanks to some big hitting by opener Tom McKenna (with 80 runs off 56 balls), Tristan Everett (70 off 41 balls) and Jay Egan (79 off 66 balls).
Empire will now meet Nymagee in Satur-day’s 40 over grand final.
In the Twenty/20 competition, Ruthless Toothless beat CSA in Friday night’s semi final while Tilpa beat Bushies in Saturday night’s semi.
CSA failed with the bat with Tarun Bheemireddy the only CSA batsman to reach double figures with 19.
David Watson and Marty Turton took two wickets each for Ruthless.
The match between Tilpa and Bushies (2 versus 3 on the ladder) went down to the last over.
With just two balls to spare, Tony Polack hit the winning runs to see Tilpa to the win.
Mitch Holt (43 runs from 40 balls) top scored for Tilpa with John Carswell their best bowler taking 3/4 from his three overs.
Ruthless Tootless and Tilpa will meet in this Friday night’s grand final (which will be a replay of last season’s grand final).
