The sun shone down on all golf competitions last week with perfect weather conditions bringing more players out of hibernation.
Golfers and the McLeod family celebrated their matriarch, Di McLeod, in the inaugural Memorial Day held in her honour on Sunday.
Sadly husband Norm McLeod wasn’t well enough to attend but numerous other members of Di’s family took part in the day.
Both men and women golfers (along with some non golfers) were among the field of 57 players to take part.
The winners of the prestigious Four-Ball-Best-Ball Stableford event were Steve Manns and Narelle Kriz with 48 points.
The runners-up, on 46 points, were Peter ‘China’ Brien and Karen Manns. Nearest to the Pin winners on the 3rd hole were Garry Wilkin for the men and Narelle Kriz for the women; 7th hole—Max Phillips and Narelle Kriz; 8th—Peter Lawrence and Robynne Morton-Lawrence; 11th—Ben Simon and Wan Sipatsa; 15th hole—Garry Wilkin for the men and Jannine Wilkin for the ladies.
A fantastic day was enjoyed by all with a barbecue to finish off on the ‘19th’.
Ann Dunn was the Ladies Wednesday Par winner with an even card. Fay Hardwick placed second on a countback from Robynne Morton after each scored -1.
Fran Samios was next with -2 and was also nearest to the pin on the 11th hole for B Grade.
Robynne Morton was the closest to the flag for A Grade and Glenda Peebles the best for C Grade.
Saturday’s Stableford round attracted 14 players including a visitor, Vanessa Hansen from Sydney. Fran Samios survived a count-back from Sally Bannister to win the day with 35 points.
Another countback was needed to separate Karen Manns and Fay Hardwick when both ladies had 32 points. Ann Dunn followed with 31 and also had a Nearest the Pin win for B Grade on the 15th hole.
Fay Hardwick and Pat Polack were the other pin winners.
This week starts and ends with Stablefords on Wednesday and Sunday and a Stroke game will be played on Saturday.—
