A feast of junior footy at Tom Knight Oval

Impact player, Drew Barton was a force to be reckoned with taking the ball up for the Junior Roosters in the Under 12’s game at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday. Drew scored a try in this game to help Cobar beat Nyngan 24-8.

It was a big day out on Saturday with Tom Knight Memorial Oval the stage for a feast of footy with 10 games of Junior Rug-by League being played.
The Cobar club hosted Nyngan (and St John’s Blue) for Round 4 of the Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League inter-town competition with Cobar’s mini sides also getting to have a run against their mini Tigers counter-parts.
While the sport of rugby league finished as the big winner of the day, the rival Nyngan visitors had a few more occasions to celebrate with their Under 16s, Under 14s, Under 13s, and Under 10s sides all recording victories.
The undefeated Cobar Under 11s and also the Under 12s teams however gave the local club cause for celebration with both recording convincing wins over the Tigers.
The Under 11s Tigers defenders found it hard to contain the Roosters’ Lachlan Brook-man who ran in four tries in Cobar’s 36-10 annihilation of Nyngan.
Rowdy Barton and Billy George also crossed for tries with Rowdy, Billy, Ben Edge, Aiden Hyland and George MacDonald responsible for their conversions. Lachlan Brookman shared the Coach’s Award with Aiden Hyland.
The Roosters Under 12s followed up the Under 11s with another great win, beating the Tigers 24-8. Nate Martin scored a double, with Eli Hodges and Drew Barton their other try scorers.
Conversions were kicked by Rowdy Barton, Nate Martin, Kai McCosker and Cohen Nicholson. The Coach’s Awards were earned by Jackson Muldoon and Jacob Chandler.
The Cobar Under 10s played a competitive game against Nyngan with the Tigers eventually finishing as 26-12 winners.
Cobar try scorers were Jaxon Waugh (2) and George MacDonald with George and Talas Burke kicking a conversion each.
Jaxon and Mason King picked up the Coach’s Awards.
The Under 13s hosted St John’s Blue in what was another close contest where the visitors had to work hard for their 26-10 victory.
Cobar’s points came from tries to Jaxon Burke and Drew Barton and a conversion by Tim Eves. The Coach’s Awards were earned by Drew Barton and Zaiden Saunders.
The Tigers were too strong in the Under 14s game and came away with a 54-10 win.
Tahj Foley was responsible for all of Cobar’s points with two tries and a conversion.
With great support play,Dustin Crotty and Jay Lamond earned the Coach’s Awards.
The Roosters Under 16s were also well beat-en by the Tigers 50 -14.
Reynold Mugugia recorded two tries for Cobar with goals kicked by Toby Greenwood, Tahj Foley and Tadgh McMullen (penalty goal).
The Coach’s Awards went to Charlie Crottty and Zac Broughton.
In the non-competitive games, the Coach’s Awards went to Under 6s Levi Prince and Ro-sie George; in the Under 7s Keelan Atuau and Josh Gillette shared the honour while in Under 8s, Dusty MacDonald and Taj Goonrey col-lected the awards. In the Under 9s game Tom-my George and Lucas Townsend scored tries and Jess Rogers and Claire Cousins collected the Coach’s Awards.
