Archer and Spencer Fugar and Myla Fullagar, who were among the first kids to leave their mark on the wall at COOSH’s new building. The five children all grew up in the building and attended daycare at Kubby in their pre-school years.
The Cobar Outside Of School Hours (COOSH) kids have left their mark on what will soon be COOSH’s new home in Bourke Street.
Cobar Shire Council received grant funding from the NSW Government under the Western NSW Workforce Activation Program to re-purpose the former Kubby House Childcare Centre building and transform it into a dedicated new home for the COOSH program.
The COOSH service provides care, play and learning for primary school-aged children before and after school and in school holidays.
Council took over the running of the childcare centre in 2021 before the service relocated to the new Early Learning Centre at Ward Oval in October 2024. Demolition work began on the Bourke Street building early in March this year and the transformation is now well underway, converting the former childcare centre for 0-5 year olds into a dedicated space for children up to 12 years of age.
The COOSH kids and their supervisors were able to pay a visit to the site last Tuesday to inspect the building work progress and create a personal time capsule.
The children left their painted handprints on one of the internal walls in what will be the service’s new front office.
Builders have since plastered over the wall, preserving the children’s handprints and names until the building undergoes further renovations.
Among the first COOSH kids to make their mark were several children who had once attended daycare at Kubby House, bringing the building’s story full circle.
