Cobar Vinnies store is in need of more volunteers

Melbourne visitor Colleen Hickey with Cobar Vinnies store volunteers Vivienne Davis and Bev O’Brien on Monday. Cobar Vinnies is in desperate need for more volunteers to help out with the running of the shop.

The Cobar Vinnies store is looking for more volunteers to ensure this valuable service in Cobar can continue to operate.

Cobar Vinnies’ conference manager, Vivienne Davis, said with only four regular  volunteers, along with a small number of people who assist when they can, they need more volunteers to help lighten the load.

“If people could volunteer for a four-hour shift, one day a week, that would be a big help,” Vivienne said.

At present the store is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturday mornings.

“We used to be open every day,” she said.

“If we had more staff, we could open more days.”

She said Vinnies could then provide even greater support to the local community.

She said there  are a number of ways people can become involved.

“They can volunteer to work on the shop floor, work behind the scenes processing donations, or help sort and organise stock.”

Beyond the practical support volunteers provide, Vivienne says one of the biggest benefits is the welcoming and social atmosphere.

“It’s a friendly environment, and we genuinely enjoy spending time together while making a difference in our community.”

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, meet new people, and support the vital work of Vinnies, the Cobar team would love to hear from you.

Every hour volunteered helps keep the shop running, supports local community programs, and contributes to helping people in need.

Anyone interested in volunteering can call  into the local Vinnies store to find out more.
