After 13 years as Cobar Preschool’s much loved director, Racquel Potter last week said goodbye to the staff, children and their families along with her friends.
Racquel said while she’s excited to be joining her husband and daughter at their new home on the Sunshine Coast, she will miss living in Cobar.
“I love my job. I am going to miss my job and the people that I work with,” Racquel told The Cobar Weekly.
“I am also going to miss my son, miss the town as a whole, the people in it and my netball team.”
Racquel’s is a very well known face in the community.
In addition to her role at the preschool, she’s also been a hard working volunteer for various sporting groups including coordinating junior netball, junior rugby league and junior basketball competitions for many years.
She also served on the Cobar Swimming Club committee for a number of years, was a popular netball player and respected umpire of junior, senior and representative games.
Racquel also led group fitness and Aquaerobics classes.
She said the best thing about working at the preschool was seeing the children grow and go on to big school and beyond with some of her former pupils now almost grown adults.
As the school’s director Racquel has been responsible for many improvements to the facility.
“We have done quite a few extensions both inside and out in my time here,” Racquel said.
“We have extended the play room, removed the kitchen from the middle of the room, had a new kitchen and a new office installed which has allowed us to take more kids.
“We also have a beautiful new outside area and new gardens,” she said.
Racquel said while she plans to continue working in the area of childcare, for now she’s taking a break and is looking forward to spending time with her family.
