Brewarrina’s Bruce Bennett wins Open

Brewarrina golfer Bruce Bennett claimed the 2026 Men’s Golf Open title on Sunday. Bruce is pictured with Cobar Bowling & Golf Club president Jim Goonrey and men’s golf captain Alec Fraser. Bennett finished three shots clear of runner-up David Rose from Nyngan. Cobar’s Jay Egan was third on a count-back.

Brewarrina golfer Bruce Bennett has finished as the 2026 Cobar Men’s Golf Open winner and was presented with the CD Pretty Cup at Sunday night’s presentations at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club.

Bennett won the 27 Hole Scratch event with a score of 106, three shots clear of runner-up David Rose from Nyngan on 109.

Last year’s Open winner, Jay Egan, also finished with a 109 but was relegated to third place following a countback.

Egan’s 109 was enough to win him the 27 Hole Nett prize with Bill Fugar the runner-up on 109½.

Tony Harding (Narromine), with 72,  was the 18 Hole Scratch winner and Brendan Smith (Nyngan) was the runner-up with 77.

Trangie’s Blake Dennis with 73, finished out in front in the 18 Hole Nett event with Travis Buckman the runner-up on 75.

Alec Fraser (38) was the 9 Hole Scratch winner and Mark Fraser (37½) was the 9 Hole Nett winner.

The winners of B Grade were: 27 Hole Scratch—Toby Smith (Nyngan), runner-up Andrew Rathmell (Hillston), 27 Hole Nett—Bian Smith and runner-up Scott Mayne, 18 Hole Scratch—Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence and runner-up Greg Clark, 18 Nett—Jim McKay (Warren) and runner-up Greg Baker (Albury), 9 Hole Scratch—Sam Keating (Nyngan).

In C Grade, the winners were: 27 Hole Scratch—Ben Griffiths and runner-up Ben McBride, 27 Nett—Ryan Urquhart and runner-up Robbie Cummins, 18 Hole Scratch—Paul Kershaw and runner-up Jai Stephenson, 18 Hole Nett—Sonny Stephens and runner-up Bill Berryman (Trangie), 9 Hole Scratch—Jeff Griffith (Nyngan) and 9 Hole Nett—Matthew Sullivan (Brewarrina).

The best Veteran player was Andrew Rathmell and Riley Hunter was the Best Junior player.

The Longest Drive winners were: A Grade—Chris Dennis (Nyngan), B Grade—Tony Polack and C Grade—Luke Scales.

The Nearest the Pin winners were: A Grade—Brian Russ, B Grade—Scott Mayne and C Grade—Matthew Sullivan (Brewarrina).
