Aurelia Metals hosted a community information session at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club last Wednesday outlining their future plans.

The meeting provided an update on Aurelia’s local operations, their workforce and their community partnerships and donations.

During the presentation, staff outlined the modification to the Federation Mine project which has recently received development consent with the ramping up of operations planned to occur over the next two years.

Members of the community received information on Aurelia’s Cobar Basin Optimisation project which encompasses three projects at the Peak Processing Plant.

Information was also supplied about the recently announced Great Cobar Project and the Great Cobar to Peak water pipeline.

Exploration updates were presented on the Kairos, Jubilee North, New Cobar, Hercules (Perseverance) deposits and also regional drilling results at the Queen Bee, Tharsis and Gladstone sites.

As a result of the new projects, Aurelia has a number of employment opportunities available which were outlined at the meeting.

Staff spoke about new strategies being investigated to encourage new employees to relocate to Cobar and support the existing local workforce and advised the company’s Home Purchase Scheme for employees to purchase a property in Cobar has been re-established.

The meeting also called for input and feedback from the community members present on a range of subjects.

Staff spoke about the establishment of Aurelia’s Community Hub in the main street along with recent partnerships they have formed with various community organisations including Cobar Shire Council and the Cobar Business Association.

Also discussed was their donation program which has supported various community and sporting groups to the tune of more than $190,000 over the past year (and $660,000 over the past five years).

Among the donations this year were: $65,000 for Batyr to fund mental health programs at Cobar High; $10,000 for Cobar Mobile Children’s Services for toys and books; $10,000 support for Cobar Dust Bowl Fuel Burners 2025 Running on Empty Festival; and $3,000 sponsorship of the Outback Science and Engineering Challenge.
