A field of 13 teams took to the golf course on Saturday for the annual Cobar Steel Sponsored Day, competing in a Three-Person Ambrose event.
Players, in men’s, ladies and mixed teams, enjoyed a great day of golf, with plenty of friendly competition and some impressive scoring throughout the field.
Taking out the honours were the mixed team consisting of Bayley Prendergast, Donna Prendergast and Michelle Rorke, who combined brilliantly to finish with a nett score of 58 5/6.
The runners-up were Alec Fraser, George Fraser and Wayne ‘Tweet’ Josephson on 59 5/6 nett, while Jay Egan, Adam Doherty and event sponsor, Jai Stephenson, secured third place with 61 1/6 nett.
The remaining placings were: 4th—Ben Tranter, Ben McBride and Gerrard Lowe with 62 5/6 net and 5th—Lochlan Ford, Kody Ford and Peter ‘China’ Brien on 63 1/3 nett.
The Men’s Nearest the Pin winners were: 3rd hole: Ben Tranter, 7th and 15th holes: Bian Smith, 8th hole: Gerrard ‘Strap’ Lowe and 11th hole: Alec Fraser.
The Ladies Nearest the Pin winners were: 3rd and 7th holes: Julie Livingston, 8th hole: Sally Bannister, 11th hole: Michelle Rorke and 15th hole: Jannine Wilkin.
A group of eight ladies returned on Sunday for a Stableford competition, with a tightly contested leaderboard seeing only a single point separate the top three players.
After a countback, Janet Place claimed victory with 35 points, narrowly edging out Julie Livingston, who also finished on 35 points.
Close behind was Karen Manns, taking third place with a strong 34-point round.
The Nearest the Pin winners were: A Grade: Julie Livingston; B Grade: Barb Barklimore; and C Grade: Ann Dunn.
Narelle Kriz competed at the Hillston Ladies Open on Sunday and played a brilliant game to finish as the A Grade 18 hole gross winner.
Last Wednesday’s ladies competition was washed out once again, with the wet weather continuing to disrupt play.—One Good Shot
