Some classy visiting shooters were among the field of 11 competitors for the Cobar Clay Target Club’s Beryl Jones Memorial Trophy shoot on Sunday, but it was a local that claimed the main prize.
Front-marker, Aaron Wyllie finished with a score of 27/30 in the Beryl Jones 30 Target Handicap event to claim the trophy ahead of Dick Tulloh, who shot 26/30 and Graeme Angove, with 25/30.
A slight breeze throughout the day kept the shooters alert, and on their toes.
Sunday’s program kicked off with two Skeet events, which is traditional for the Beryl Jones Memorial Day.
Some shooters took their time to get started, while a few new faces to the event enjoyed a new element of target shooting.
Angove, with 31/50, had the best score.
Following lunch, three down-the-line events were held, including the main event.
In the 30 Target Double Barrel event, the AA Grade winner was Kevin Hatch with a possible score of 30/30.
A Grade was won by Brad Kendrick with 29/30 and Kirk Grogan also shot 29/30 to win B Grade.
There was a tie for first place in C Grade with Patrick O’Malley and John Martin both recording 25/30.
In the 30 Target Point Score event, Hatch had to share first place in AA Grade with Robert Thompson after both scored 90/90.
A Grade was won by Max Ingleton with 81/90.
Grogan took the honours again in B Grade with 67/90 and Angove won C Grade with 71/90.
The day’s Overall Highgun winner was Kevin Hatch with a total of 144/150.—contributed
