
There was another fantastic week of competition, camaraderie, and impressive performances in the Ladies Golf competition.
With strong fields across all events, the ladies showcased skill, consistency, and plenty of competitive spirit.
A solid midweek field took to the course last Wednesday, with some excellent scoring despite testing conditions.
Reina Cross delivered a standout round with a superb 65 nett, setting the benchmark for the day.
Susan Goonrey and Fay Hardwick both returned 74 nett, with Goonrey taking second place on a countback.
Fay Hardwick showed exceptional touch on the greens, claiming the putting honours with an impressive 26 putts.
There was a wonderful turnout of 17 players for the Mabel Mackenzie Vets Day on Saturday which was held alongside the regular competition, and brought together a strong field of experienced players.
Narelle Kriz delivered a polished and confident performance to take out Division 1 honours, Geraldine Francisco produced a well-balanced round to claim victory in Division 2 and Susan Goonrey continued her excellent run of form, taking out Division 3 with another strong performance. Fay Hardwick once again demonstrated her class and experience, winning the Senior Vets category.
Saturday’s Stroke round produced some excellent scoring across the field, with players navigating the course well and making the most of scoring opportunities.
Wen Zhang set the pace with a composed and consistent round, finishing on a very impressive 70 nett. Narelle Kriz continued her strong form, securing second place with 73 nett after a count back. Reina Cross also returned 73 nett, showing great consistency and keeping herself firmly in contention throughout the day.
Just behind the leaders, Janet Place posted a solid 75 nett, while both Susan Goonrey and Geraldine Francisco recorded 76 nett, with Goonrey edging ahead on a countback in another close finish.
The Nearest the Pin winners on the 8th Hole were: A Grade—Francisco, B Grade—Goonrey and C Grade—Carol Arnold.
Sunday’s Four-Ball-Worst-Ball Stableford brought a fantastic mix of competition and camaraderie, with 15 players working together to maximise scoring on every hole.
The format encouraged strategic play, backing up your partner when needed and taking advantage when opportunities arose.
Marlene Wynd and Wen Zhang proved a formidable combination, finishing with 29 points. Brenda Fugar and Donna Prendergast followed with 23 points, putting together a solid team performance.
Narelle Kriz and Sally Bannister claimed third place with 22 points, continuing Kriz’s strong weekend form alongside a steady partnership effort.
The Individual Player of the Day was Marlene Wynd, who delivered an outstanding individual round of 38 points.
The winners of the Nearest the Pin competition on the 11th Hole were: A Grade—Zhang, B Grade—Wynd and C Grade—Glenda Peebles.
Coming up today is a graded Stroke event, the Nutrien Russell Stableford (Graded) will be contested on Saturday and Sunday’s game is a Stroke (Graded) Trophy Day.—One Good Shot
