
Murray Harland’s 8th win of the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Club Champion title has earned him legendary status among his peers.
Harland was named the 2025/2026 Club Champion at the Yabbies presentations at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club on Saturday night.
Harland joins club legend Ian ‘Setts’ Settree as the only two members to have achieved the title eight times in the club’s 55 year history.
Harland was one of the season’s highest attenders and their most consistent swimmer of the season. He averaged a total of 11.78 points each week.
Bob Clark (9.80 points) and Bill Fugar (9.11 points) were also consistent performers throughout the season however did not have as good an attendance record as Harland.
Harland finished the season with a tally of 271 points, well ahead of Tom Jones (213), Henry Knight (209) and Chris Powell on 192.
Harland also took home the 50 metre Russel Harland Memorial Shield after finishing with 103 points ahead of Tom Jones (74 points) and Scott Toomey (66).
Harland also earned 103 points to claim the 100 metre Phil Knuckey Memorial Shield ahead of Knight (85) and Jones (78).
Fugar interrupted the trifecta and claimed the 30 metre Cobar Bowling & Golf Club Shield with 75 points ahead of Harland, Chris Powell, and Knight, who all finished with 65 points.
The Ian Settree One Night Stand award was won by Bob Clark, who had the best overall time in one night of 0.31 seconds off his nominated time in three events.
Powell was second (0.32) and Harland was third with 0.42 seconds.
Harland teamed up with Charlie Nelson to also claim this season’s Brace Relay trophy with Greg Martin and Chris Powell second and John Carswell and Paul Swainston were third.
Nelson was awarded the Tom Knight Memorial Shield as the Most Improved/Consistent swimmer of the season.
