Roosters Reggies put on a good show against Gulgong

Paddy Harris (with the ball), once again played a fearless game for the Roosters Reserve Grade side on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.

G’day sports fans. Saturday’s Reserve Grade  match was set to be a challenge for the Roosters with Chris ‘Wreck’em’ Rylie getting a call up to First Grade and the Irish brothers flying back to Ireland for the Cavan and Offaly Gaelic games playing each other under lights (or something like that).

This week’s game against Gulgong had to be lead by the meatheads from the get go, and Paddy ‘Ruthless Toothless’ Harris, Jarrod ‘Paris’ Hilton and Tommy Rogers showed no respect to their bodies, hitting up the terrified Terriers from the first whistle.

Reynold Mugugia muscled up and made good  metres which led to an early try by the Roosters Fullback Kai ‘Whippet’ Taylor in the corner.

Ryan ‘Rapunzel’ Urquhart started to build big minutes in the #7 jersey in the first of two  grades he played in that day and attacked the line with confidence.

‘Madman’ Mugugia stole 40 metres up the guts bashing what looked like 29 different defenders only to see a try go rolling over the dead ball line.

Gulgong hit back with beautiful work targeting the slow Cobar defence and went most the way down the field before Taylor used his 39kg of pure skin and bone to save a try.

‘Rapunzel’ and ‘Whippet’ then went on the attack teaming up down the blind side which resulted in Rapunzel Urquhart scoring under the black dot.

Not long after the duo attacked again, this time ‘Whippet’ Taylor landed the try and took the score to 16-0.

The game was looking to be a run away for the Roosters and Cobar let the pressure off.

The Terriers did some fancy aerobatics to regather a kick and they scored shortly after.

The Roosters started sooking about the heat (it seemed ok in the dugout) and their defence dropped away to see Gulgong score again.

Vester Fernando came in all game to take some heat off his forwards with some good charges but the Cobar team structure lacked discipline and a silly intercept resulted in Gulgong scoring to take an 18-16 lead at halftime.

Both sides seemed to forget the game needs the ball to be held to flow, and Rapunzel found it hard to make metres with the lack of options given to him.

Hilton and Rogers again put their hands up for punishment.

Brennan Auckett attacked, stepped once, twice and then scored.

The first quarter of the game had been all Roosters but the door was left open and the Terriers entered the chook house and went on to smash any remaining hopes of a Roosters’ win. Gulgong attacked the edges making easy metres and then they took the middle of the field with ease.

There were a few headless chooks laying around the paddock in the last minute of the game as Gulgong took the victory, 30-28.—Dido
