Cobar Swimming Club had six swimmers compete at the 2024 NSW Country Regionals two day carnival over the weekend.

Swimming NSW hosted the event at three separate venues with Ashleigh, Harry and Clair Cousins competing at Charlestown, Isabelle and Josh Gillette swam at Orange and Henry Knight competed at Wagga Wagga.

There were over 1,300 swimmers from all over country NSW entered in the events.

This event is what their training and competitions this season have been leading to, with many events requiring qualifying times, so without their previous PB’s, they wouldn’t be eligible to enter.

Clair finished the weekend with two PB’s as well as two top 10 placings in her age group; Harry also had two PB’s and one top 10 placing; Isabelle achieved PB’s in all her events, placing just outside the top 10 finishers in three of her events; Josh and Ashleigh each had two PB’s; and Henry recorded two PB’s and had two top 10 placings.

Isabelle and Josh also attended the Western Area Development Day in Coonamble on January 13 and swimming carnival on January 14.

Putting into practice what they had learnt at the development day, Isabelle finished second in her 50m freestyle swim at Coonamble slashing an impressive 2.47 seconds off her previous personal best (PB) time and, despite not placing in other events, Isabelle dropped a combined total of 19 seconds off her PB’s in other events.

Also at the Coonamble carnival, Josh placed third in his 50m butterfly event – a stroke he has been focusing on perfecting. He dropped a total of seven seconds across his events.—contributed
