The 2022 Cobar Darts Open was held over the weekend at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club with players from across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory competing for the $3,500 prizemoney on offer.
The NSW Darts Association approved event was also a chance for players to pick up points to improve their NSW and Australian player rankings.
The event kicked off on Friday night with the Blind Drawn Doubles competition with the $500 winners prizemoney provided by Tony Brown from Y-NOT Line Marking.
From the field of 52 players, Linda Dobbin from the Central Coast and Matt Vickers from the ACT finished as the winners.
Tony Brown got some of his sponsorship money back when he teamed up with Karl Korzuch (Broken Hill) and they finished as runners-up.
The Doubles tournaments were contested on Saturday by 20 men’s teams and seven ladies sides.
In the Ladies competition, Karen Fridd and Asha Gurd from SA finished as the Ladies Doubles winners over Annalise Riley and Chelsea Anderson from SA.
Other players contesting the semi finals included Pat Towns, Sue Batholomew, Linda Dobbin and Theresa Foster from NSW.
Finishing as the Men’s Doubles champions were Luke Wilson and Karl Korzuch from NSW while Bob Pinder and Daniel Lill from SA were runners-up.
Among the semi finalists were Matt Vickers and Jake Buckley from ACT and Geoff Rams and David Paino from QLD.
The Ladies’ and Men’s Singles Championships were decided on Sunday with wins recorded by Linda Dobbin (NSW) for the ladies and Bob Pinder (SA) for the men’s.
Pat Towns (NSW) was the ladies runner-up while Geoff Rams (QLD) was the runner-up in the men’s competition.
Semi finalists for the ladies were Kylie Tiffen (Cobar) and Chelsea Anderson (SA) while Blake Thickett (SA) and Brayden Sperling (SA) were the other semi finalists in the men’s competition.
In local competition games last week, Empire Barflies defeated Golfie Gophers 7-4 while Golfie Dartaholics beat RSL 6-5.
