Swanettes fly back home with a well earned win

The Dunedoo Swanettes kept their unbeaten record intact when they came to Cobar on Saturday winning their Round 5 Castlereagh League Tag match with the Roosterettes 42-20.

The Roosterettes’ defence found it hard to contain Jacinta Dummett who ran away with five tries to help her Dunedoo side to a win.

The visitors called the shots for most of the first half and just minutes out from the break they had a 22-0 lead.

A new recruit to the Cobar team this season, Amber Byrne, not only surprised the opposition but also herself when she crossed for Cobar’s first points one minute out from the halftime break.

Byrne at first couldn’t believe she hadn’t been tagged but soon recovered and put the ball down for the Roosterettes’ first try.

It was a better second half for the Cobar side with more success coming from their attacking raids.

Neve Carter touched down for the first of their second half tries followed by Jezebel Hitchins and fullback Sarah Morley, backing up a breakaway run by Brianna Watson, also crossed for a try.

Watson kicked two conversions.

Morley was a standout in the match, particularly in cover defence when she saved a number of certain tries, to earn her side’s Best & Fairest three points and Players’ Player award.

Watson picked up two points and hardworking Bianka Jacobson collected one point.
