It was smiles all round for the 19 ladies who gathered at the Empire Hotel last Tuesday for Cobar VIEW Club’s first meeting since March.
President Margaret Potter welcomed everyone with some humorous stories which set the tone for an enjoyable day.
Sadly a minute’s silence was held for two members of the group, Narda Armstrong and Edna Scott, who have recently passed away.
On a happier note, Enid English was rewarded for her 10 years of continuous membership with an official badge presented by the president.
Kate Winders reported that the 60 years National VIEW Club celebrations had to be re-scheduled and as Cobar’s delegate she would now be attending the postponed gathering in Sydney in October.
Fundraising ideas of a Father’s Day raffle and Oaks Day luncheon were discussed.
The committee has called for ideas to encourage more interest and participation in Oaks Day.
The meeting’s guest speaker, author Joanne Boog, had everyone on tenterhooks as she gave an insight into her recently published novel, which was described as a “Regency romance with a dash of murder mystery”.
Joanne, who writes under the pseudonym of Joanne Austen Brown, was encouraged as a child by her mother to nurture her vivid imagination. It wasn’t until her own family had grown up that she decided to follow her dream and tackle writing her first novel. She suffered many rejections from publishers and decided to finally get the book out by self-publishing.
Joanne delivered a passionate message of not giving up, but believing in oneself to make the dream happen! (She is currently working on her third book.)
Dora Difilippo won the lucky door prize and Enid English collected the raffle prize.
It is hoped that monthly meetings will be able to continue, but with the COVID-19 situation so unstable, that may not be possible.—contributed
