Young Roosters record some big wins

There’s lots of young Cobar Roosters players showing plenty of promise including Under 14’s Ryan Mugugia who was voted as Players’ Player in his team’s exciting 28-all draw with Narromine on Saturday in Round 5 of the Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League competition. ▪ Photo courtesy of Narelle Green

Cobar Junior League hosted the Narromine Jets juniors for a big day of footy at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday with 10 junior games contested prior to the three senior games kicking off.

Cobar’s best win of the day was in their Under 10’s game with the Roosters trouncing the Jets 58-6.

Eligh Ritter, Alfie Toomey and George Wainiqolo each crossed the line twice for their team while Dusty McDonald, Austin Kane, Sonny Stephens, Jack Mitchell and Hugo Josephson also scored a try each.

Eligh, Sonny, Alfie and Hugo converted tries while Taj Goonrey, Brock Eves and Charles Miller also booted a conversion each to add to Cobar’s big tally.

Dusty earned the Coaches Award while Sonny was named the team’s Players’ Player.

The Under 14’s game was definitely the match of the round with the Cobar team putting up a good fight to finish with a 28-all draw, with their last try scored in the final minute of the game.

A perfectly weighted kick to the corner by Rowdy Barton was gathered in by Kai McCosker (amid a sea of Jets’ defenders) and he crossed to score.

Rowdy’s successful conversion after the fulltime siren, sealed the 28-all draw.

In addition to Kai’s try, Ryan Mugugia ran in three tries and Eligh Hodges also crossed for a  try.

In all, Rowdy was responsible for three conversions (from four attempts) while Cohan Nicholson booted their other goal.

Ryan was voted Players’ Player and Henry Rogers received the Coaches Award.

The Under 13’s had a thriller of a game finishing with a close 20-16 win over Narromine in their match.

Cobar’s tries were scored by Cohan Nicholson (2) with Billy George and Aiden Hyland scoring one each.

Rowdy kicked one conversion and also a two point field goal.

Cohan earned the Players’ Player award and Lachie Brookman won the Coaches Award…Full report in this week’s edition out now!!
