Window for netball games to be played

The Round 8 games of the Cobar Senior Netball competition went ahead on Saturday afternoon with a window opening up in the windy and wet weather long enough for the games to be played.

Shooters in particular had to make allowances for the very windy conditions.

The competition’s joint leaders Divas and Pumpettes were hardly phased by the windy weather and both finished with high scoring wins.

Divas outplayed Mid Strength Merinos to win their match 63-14. The first quarter was Divas best of the game. They had recorded 23 goals before the first break and by half time they had a 43-5 lead.

Mid Strength Merinos improved in the second half, doubling their score in the third quarter and their defence also stepped up to reduce Divas’ scoring rate, however the damage had already been done in the first half and the Divas finished with the 49 point win.

Pumpettes also had a high scoring 61-19 win over Gumnuts. Pumpettes led 29-11 at half time and continued to power on in the second half to finish with the big 42 point win.

In the other games JKM beat Sharpe Shooters 47-22 in a closer match and Hot Shots had a 32-17 win over Real Steel.

The players of the round were: Bella
Coughlan (Gumnuts); Benetta Townsend (Pumpettes); Catherine James (Real Steel); Stacey Harrison (Hot Shots); Neve Carter (JKM); Stevie Toomey (Sharpe Shooters); Sienna Green (Mid Strength Merinos); and Lisa Travis (Divas).
