Roosters Reggies bring in the crowd

The Roosters Reggies can take credit for pulling in a big crowd at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday however it was their Gilgandra opposition who had more cause to celebrate after they won 32-12.

The new Cobar Reserve Grade side was made up of recently retired players, long retired players (including some who haven’t played for more than 20 years) and some younger players, and what they lacked in ability, they more than made up for in enthusiasm.

The Christie & Hood Castlereagh League kicked off its first game of the five round Reserve Grade competition on Saturday.

The competition is designed to get more participation throughout the region, and the Cobar team line up covers a very broad range of experience and hair colours.

Captain/coach Chris Deighton said the team has been doing a serious amount of training which is starting to show with only one way to go from here.

The game’s referee Rob McKechnie laid down the laws while the coin toss was in progress.

Both sides were there for a great game and memories to follow.

Gilgandra won the toss and elected to kick off, and it was at this time that a few people might have started to regret the decision to pull their footy boots back on.

Paul McCosker however wasn’t one of them!

After five years of retirement, the 39 year old prop brought it from the back fence to have a 17 year old hit him with just as much excitement for the game.

This is when the Cobar boys knew it was going to be a long game of footy…Full report in this week’s edition of The Cobar Weekly out now!
